One-Hour Original Special to Premiere in August

One of the strongest female voices in R&B in recent years is steadfast on reclaiming her top spot on the charts, and Peachtree TV will be there to capture it all in the original special THE SINGLE: MONICA. This one-hour special will follow Atlanta’s own Monica as she pours everything she has into delivering a smash single for her forthcoming album with J Records, Lessons Learned.
THE SINGLE: MONICA, created and executive-produced by James Dubose and DuBose Entertainment, is set to premiere exclusively on Peachtree TV in August. It is the first installment in what is planned to be an original unscripted series about musical comebacks, with additional episodes being developed that will feature a variety of popular artists.

“The music industry is brutal,” said DuBose. “It’s a fickle space, and the fans’ tastes are constantly changing, especially with new artists coming in to steal the spotlight. So it’s extremely difficult for even the biggest established stars to have any type of staying power in the music business. Every new song or album is do-or-die because so many reputations and careers are on the line. It’s a highly emotional and competitive process that requires creative, dynamic partnership and interaction among the artist, the producer and the record label in order to have a remote chance at success. Organically capturing this high-stakes process is what we’re looking to do with THE SINGLE.”

THE SINGLE: MONICA will follow the Grammy-winning, multi-Platinum R&B artist as she works with record producer Bryan Michael Cox and J Records A&R executives Larry Jackson and Jaha Johnson, on an upcoming single for her new album. The special will track the process of creating a hit song from conception to recording to release, while also providing a peek at Monica’s home life with rapper/producer Rodney “Rocko” Hill and their two sons.
“Over the past year, Peachtree TV has shined a spotlight on Atlanta’s vibrant music culture, enjoying solid success with such projects as Dallas Austin’s DRUMROLL: SWD and Jermaine Dupri Presents: BRUTHA,” said Jonathan Katz, senior vice president/general manager of Peachtree TV. “We are very excited to be working with Monica as she takes her career to a new level and shares the ride with Peachtree TV viewers.”
When Monica entered the music scene in 1995 with her debut album Miss Thang, critics and fans alike knew that she had the makings of a superstar. She quickly became the youngest female artist ever to have two back-to-back #1 hits on Billboard’s R&B singles chart with “Don’t Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days)” and “Before You Walk Out of My Life.” Both songs topped the Hot 100 chart and sold one million copies each.
In 1998, The Boy Is Mine was released and delivered three consecutive #1 Billboard pop singles (the title track, “Angel of Mine” and “First Night”). Even more impressive, the album’s title track with Brandy spent 13 weeks at #1 on the pop charts, and eight weeks at #1 on the R&B listing. Additionally, the duet earned Monica a Grammy to add to her American Music, Soul Train and Billboard Awards.
Following The Boy Is Mine, Monica released After the Storm in 2003. The album went on to sell more than a million copies. In 2006, the talented singer and actress, who has sold more than 12 million copies to date, showed what she was really made of with a poignant return on her fourth album The Makings of Me, which spawned the Jermaine Dupri hit single “Everytime Tha Beat Drop” and “A Dozen Roses,” produced by Missy Elliott.
With an amazing track record of chart-topping hits, THE SINGLE: MONICA will provide a behind-the-scenes look at Monica’s determination to dominate the charts and fans’ hearts once again with her upcoming fifth album, Lessons Learned.
